Challenges for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in Green and Sustainable Technology Era

Background

In the current epoch of rapid industrialization and urbanization, the imperative for sustainable development has become more pressing than ever. Central to this pursuit is the integration of green and sustainable technologies across various sectors. In this context, the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology play pivotal roles in innovating solutions that are both environmentally friendly and economically viable. However, these disciplines are confronted with a myriad of challenges as they navigate the complexities of the green and sustainable technology era.

Sub themes of this conference

  1. Renewable Energy Sources: Exploring biochemical and molecular mechanisms for efficient conversion and storage of renewable energy
  2. Waste Management and Recycling: Investigating bio-based approaches for waste management and recycling, including enzymatic degradation, microbial bioremediation, and metabolic engineering for resource recovery.
  3. Sustainable Agriculture and Food Production: Examining the role of biochemistry and molecular biology in enhancing crop yield, nutrient utilization, and resilience to environmental stressors, with a focus on sustainable farming practices
  4. Green Chemistry and Synthesis: Tackling the challenges of green chemical synthesis, catalysis, and process optimization using principles of biochemistry and molecular biology to minimize environmental impact and maximize efficiency.
  5. Environmental Monitoring and Remediation: Utilizing molecular tools and biomarkers for environmental monitoring, pollution detection, and remediation strategies, including bioremediation of contaminated sites and water purification technologies
  6. Biological Systems Engineering: Integrating biochemistry and molecular biology with engineering disciplines to design and optimize biological systems for sustainable applications, such as synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, and bioinformatics
  7. Sustainable Drug Discovery and Development of Medical technology: One of the primary challenges facing biochemistry and molecular biology in green medicine is the pursuit of sustainable drug discovery and development processes. Traditional pharmaceutical development often relies on resource-intensive procedures, chemical synthesis, and animal testing, leading to significant environmental impacts. Transitioning towards greener alternatives involves harnessing molecular biology techniques such as high-throughput screening, computer-aided drug design, and rational drug optimization to minimize resource consumption, waste generation, and animal usage.
  8. Education and Outreach: Promoting interdisciplinary education and public engagement to foster understanding and appreciation of the role of biochemistry and molecular biology in addressing challenges related to sustainability and environmental conservation.
